Guy Phillips
Guy is the founder and Managing Member of NuOrion Capital
In addition to his role at NuOrion Capital, Guy is also the Chairperson of Spayne Lindsay & Co., a global consumer M&A advisory firm.
Guy was formerly Global Head of the Entrepreneurs Coverage Group at UBS, which was responsible for all corporate finance activity with the firm’s entrepreneurs and families. Prior to that role, Guy was Global Head of the UBS Consumer Products & Retail Group and was a member of the Investment Banking Division Executive Committee. Guy was also EMEA Head of the UBS Private Equity Coverage Group.
Guy has extensive M&A and capital markets experience with large capitalization companies, entrepreneurs, hedge funds and private equity funds. Guy worked at UBS in both the New York and London offices and is a graduate of the Harvard Business School and Franklin & Marshall College.
Guy is the Managing Partner of NuOrion Advisors, a Registered Investment Advisor that focuses on alternative investing, including private equity. He serves on the board of directors of Au Vodka (digitally native premium spirits business), RipVan (low sugar snacks), BeeDigital (digitalization and artificial intelligence technological solutions for SMEs), Lummus Corporation (industrial company) and Carter Control Systems (intralogistics company).
John Duffy
John is a Partner of NuOrion Capital
In addition to his role at NuOrion, John is also a Partner of Spayne Lindsay & Co., a global consumer M&A advisory firm.
John is the founder of ROCKER & CAMBER, LLC which advises founders, families and funds with a principal focus on their private investment strategies. His advisory relationships have included the private venture and growth teams at JP Morgan Asset Management and Franklin Templeton (active).
At J.P. Morgan, John founded Morgan Private Ventures (MPV). MPV is a global private investment business focused on funding mid-stage growth companies via direct and co-investment transactions with capital raised from institutionally qualified family office clients. Morgan Private Ventures, via its clients, invested over $3 billion of capital since its inception in 2015. Prior to the founding of Morgan Private Ventures John served as Vice Chairman of J.P. Morgan Private Bank, Global Head of Institutional Wealth Management and CEO of the U.S. Private Bank. He was a member of the J.P. Morgan Private Bank Operating Committee, CEO of the J.P. Morgan Trust Bank, U.S. CEO of Securities, Trust and Information Services division and US Head of Mortgage Backed Securities sales with the J.P. Morgan Investment Bank. He began his career with J.P. Morgan in 1982.
John is a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross and New York University, Stern School of Business. He and his spouse, Tricia, reside in New York. Their three adult sons, John, Patrick and Brendan live and work in California and New York.
Tom Girardi
Tom is a Partner of NuOrion Capital
In addition to his role at NuOrion, Tom is also a Partner of Spayne Lindsay & Co., a global consumer M&A advisory firm.
Tom Girardi is focused on the Food & Beverage/Consumer Products sectors in North America and Latin America. Tom has more than 25 years’ experience in the identification, planning and execution of domestic and cross-border M&A transactions.
Tom was previously Managing Director for HT Capital Advisors, LLC where he advised family owned companies, private equity firms and corporate clients on buy-side and sell-side transactions. Tom advised Hormel Foods on their acquisition of Justin’s Nut Butter in the US and their first acquisition in Brazil. Previously, he was M&A Director for Unilever where he managed their corporate development initiatives in the Americas region for thirteen years. Earlier in his career, Tom held strategic planning and financial management roles with Reckitt’s US business. During his career, he has played an integral role in the successful completion of more than fifty acquisitions and divestitures; including several multi-billion-dollar transactions involving major consumer brands.
Tom holds an MBA in Finance from Rutgers Business School and a BS in Accounting from Montclair State University. He also holds Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and Certified in Financial Management (CFM) designations
Sergio Pedreiro
Sergio is a Partner of NuOrion Capital
In addition to his role at NuOrion, Sergio is also a Partner of Spayne Lindsay & Co., a global consumer M&A advisory firm.
Sergio Pedreiro is the former Chief Operating Officer of Revlon. He has more than 20 years of experience in international finance and business administration. Sergio was previously a partner of BTG Pactual in the Private Equity group. Before joining BTG Pactual, he was the CFO of Coty, the global beauty company with US$5 billion where he led the Coty’s IPO on NYSE in mid-2013. He also served as the Chief Financial Officer of America Latina Logística SA, the largest publicly traded cargo railroad in Brazil.
Sergio began his career as a business consultant at McKinsey & Company in Brazil and was also previously an intern at Goldman Sachs in New York.
He received his B.Sc. in Aeronautical Engineering from ITA—Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronautica in Brazil with honors and holds an M.B.A. degree from Stanford University.
Jonathan Tretler
Jonathan is a Partner of NuOrion Capital
In addition to his role at NuOrion, Jonathan is also a Partner of Spayne Lindsay & Co., a global consumer M&A advisory firm.
He has over 25 years of investment banking and strategic advisory experience. His areas of expertise include corporate strategy, M&A and capital raising initiatives on behalf of corporate and private equity clients. His industry expertise covers all aspects of the consumer products and retail landscape, with a particular focus on the food & beverage sector. Over the course of his career, Jonathan has originated and led the execution of advisory and capital raising transactions with an aggregate value of over $200bn.
Most recently, Jonathan was Managing Director and the Head of the North America Consumer & Retail Group at HSBC which he joined in 2017. Prior to HSBC, Jonathan was head of the Food & Beverage Investment Banking practice at RBC Capital Markets for four years. He has also held leadership roles at Deutsche Bank and UBS.
Jonathan currently serves on the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee at Feeding Westchester, Westchester County’s largest food bank. He is also a Member of the Ambassador’s Council for the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania. Jonathan holds a BA from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from The Wharton School.
Sam Evans
Sam Evans is a Director at NuOrion Capital
In addition to his role at NuOrion, Sam is also a Director of Spayne Lindsay & Co., a global consumer M&A advisory firm.
Sam has led a number of transactions, recently including the sale of Deliciously Ella to Hero Group, the sale of Strong Roots to McCain Foods, the sale of the SCI-MX Nutrition brand to Supreme Plc and the acquisition of Fullers Foods by Quilvest USA. He is also experienced in advising on public takeovers, including the takeover of Cyprotex Plc and the reverse takeover of hVIVO Plc.
Previously,Sam worked at MCF Corporate Finance advising on cross-border M&A, including a year seconded to the team in Stockholm. He is a graduate of Oxford University, where he studied English Language and Literature.
Alex Phillips
Alex is a Senior Analyst at NuOrion Capital
In addition to his role at NuOrion, Alex is also a Senior Analyst at Spayne Lindsay & Co.
Alex joined NuOrion in 2022. He graduated from the University of Miami with degrees in Finance and Marketing.
Marie Katz
Marie is the Chief Financial Officer and FinOp of NuOrion Capital
Marie Katz brings a wealth of executive leadership through her years in senior roles across compliance, finance, and risk for premiere organizations, including AIG Global Capital Markets, Bank of America, GE Asset Management, Royal Bank of Scotland and The New York Stock Exchange. Marie has also worked directly for FINRA as a Senior Examiner and maintains involvement as a FINRA Arbitrator. Given Marie's background as an equity analyst, she is widely recognized for her ability to bridge corporate strategy with financial projections alongside regulatory and compliance requirements for best practice based infrastructure. Marie graduated with a B.A. in Political Science from Binghamton University and received her MBA from Fordham University.
